Free CPhT Practice Test
Two sample questions with real explanations and a route note for PTCB’s PTCE and the NHA’s ExCPT — then a link to the full interactive quiz.
Sample — Drugs & Drug Therapy
What is the primary therapeutic use of levothyroxine?
- Treatment of hypothyroidism
- Treatment of hypertension
- Treatment of diabetes
- Treatment of depression
Show the answer
Treatment of hypothyroidism
Levothyroxine is a synthetic form of the thyroid hormone thyroxine (T4) and is primarily used to treat hypothyroidism, a condition in which the thyroid gland doesn't produce enough thyroid hormone.
This free CPhT practice test gives you real multiple-choice items built for both certification routes — PTCB’s PTCE and the NHA’s ExCPT — so you can see where you stand before you pay a fee for the real thing. Every question below carries the correct answer and a full explanation, not just a checkmark, and the same bank feeds the complete interactive quiz once you are ready to run more than a handful.
Both routes end at the identical credential, so a pharmacy technician practice test built this way works whether your employer names the PTCB or the NHA. Know your route already? Jump straight to that route’s own set below. Not sure yet? Start here — the unfamiliar terms will tell you where to spend study time first.

Try two sample questions
Read the stem, pick an option, then open the explanation — that habit matters more than getting either one right on the first pass. These two are pulled from different domains, Medication Safety & QA and Dispensing Process, so you see a spread of the vocabulary the exam actually covers rather than one narrow slice.
Sample — Medication Safety & QA

PTCB or NHA: know your route before you drill it
PTCB’s PTCE and the NHA’s ExCPT test overlapping pharmacy technician knowledge and both end at the same CPhT credential, but question format, length and scoring scale differ between the two — confirm the current specifics on ptcb.org or nhanow.com before you register. Once you know which one you are sitting, drill that route’s own set instead of splitting attention across both.

- Free CPhT practice test, no signup wall
- Covers both PTCB/PTCE and NHA/ExCPT vocabulary
- Every item explains the correct answer instead of just marking it right or wrong
- Feeds straight into the full CPhT practice questions bank once you are past the samples
What to carry into the exam
- A free practice test only pays off if you read the explanation on every item, right answers included — the reasoning transfers, the memorized stem does not.
- PTCB and NHA test overlapping knowledge for the same CPhT credential, but format and scoring differ, so confirm your route before you commit study hours to one format.
- Two questions will not show you your pace; move to the full quiz or the timed practice exam once the samples feel easy.
Questions this practice test gets
Does this practice test count toward my certification?
No. These are original practice items written to match the style and domain coverage PTCB and NHA publish for their exams, not questions pulled from either board’s secure item bank, and no score here is reported anywhere. They exist to show you where your knowledge is thin before test day.
Is CPhT the same thing as CPT?
No. CPhT (little h) is the pharmacy technician credential this page covers. CPT without the h almost always means medical billing codes or a phlebotomy certification — unrelated content, even though the letters look close.
Do I need to know my route before I start?
Not to start. The two samples above mix vocabulary from both routes so you can gauge general readiness first. Once a job posting or your state board names a route, switch to the PTCB practice test or the ExCPT practice test to match its exact format.
What is the difference between this page and the full practice exam?
This page samples a couple of items to get you started. The full CPhT practice exam runs a longer, timed set closer to real test-day pacing, and the interactive practice questions bank lets you filter by domain and difficulty across the entire set.
